OWENSBORO, Ky. — Wanda Jewell Sweeney, 67, of Owensboro, Ky., lost her battle with cancer on June 6, 2017, at her home. Wanda was born on Dec. 11, 1949, in Elkton, Ky., to the late Earnest C. Rager and Jewell D. Rager.
She was 1967 graduate of Calhoun County High School and was a member of Seventh Day Adventist church in Owensboro.
Wanda retired from Daviess County Public Schools after 19 years of service.
She loved spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Benny D. Rager.
Wanda is survived by two daughters, Shirley Phelps (Michael) and Vickie Jackson (Frank), both of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Jason Phelps, Brandon Phelps, Joshua Sweeney, Jamal Sweeney (Taylor), and Amber Sweeney, all of Owensboro; four great-grandchildren, Amaya Sweeney, Chloe Reeder, Jaice Reeder, Kaelyn Reeder, all of Owensboro; five brothers, Larry Rager (Shirley), Bill Rager (Ruthie), of Owensboro, Richard Rager (Ruth), of Beaver Dam, Jerry Rager (Shirlee), Gary Rager (Brenda), both of Owensboro; three sisters, Nancy A. Chandler, of Greenville, Ky., Carolyn Killough (Jimmy), of Tupelo, Miss., Emma Logsdon (Wayne), of Reynolds Station, Ky.
The family would like to thank Dr. Prajapati, Dr. Kalik, Dr. Maru, Dr. Waring, Dr. Danetz, and a special thanks to Dr. Humphrey and all nurses at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and all nurses at the dialysis unit for taking such good care of her and Hospice of Western Kentucky.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
