FRANKFORT, Ky. — Team Kentucky’s Stop Scams site is warning Kentucky residents of two phone scams making the rounds again.
According to the Stop Scams site, scammers pretending to be law enforcement are calling residents claiming they missed jury duty. The scammers direct their victims to a cryptocurrency kiosk to pay a fine and “resolve” the situation, but the money goes directly to the scammer.
If you receive this phone call, immediately hang up. Once cryptocurrency is sent, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to recover. Legitimate law enforcement officials do not ask for or accept cryptocurrency as payment for fines.
The Kentucky State Police warned residents about cryptocurrency scams at the end of July.
