Carl ‘Woody’ Woodrow Hines

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Carl “Woody” Woodrow Hines, 75, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born in the Cool Springs community of Ohio County, Kentucky, July 27, 1943, to the late William W. Hines and Ida P. Kitchens.

Carl was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church and the United Mine Workers of America. He was an U.S. Army veteran and an underground coal miner. Carl enjoyed watching University of Louisville basketball, horse racing, westerns, listening to Johnny Cash, and farming. He was a proud coal miner and loved his family.

Along with his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his first wife, Paula Jean; his daughter, Karen K. Ruffalo; siblings, Elwood Hines, and Betty Nance; and half-brother, Orville Leisure

Carl is survived by his former wife, Pamela Hines; his children, Sandra (Frank) Fender, of Murray, Kentucky, William Hines, Erin Bukhari, Sally (Joaquim) Gomes, all of Owensboro; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and one sibling, Hilda Wood, of Branson, Missouri.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Miller-Schapmire funeral home. Burial to follow at Cool Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
