Marion Eugene ‘Gene’ Knott

BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Marion Eugene “Gene” Knott, 87, of Beaver Dam, passed away Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky at Heartford House in Owensboro.

He was born Oct. 26, 1929, in Whitesville, Kentucky, to the late William and Elner Watts Knott. Gene was a retired boilermaker where he served as foreman for Prairie Tank Co. as a National Transient member. He loved his profession.

Gene was always known for having a pocketful of bubble gum and candy to share with others. He was a member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ.

He also was preceded in death by four sisters; and one daughter, Bonnie Jean Knott Lewis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ruby Farmer Knott; two daughters, Kathryn Knott, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Andrea Crowe (Stacey), of Beaver Dam; and two wonderful grandsons, Ethan Thomas and Corbin Andrew Crowe, who thought the world of their papaw.

Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. The family of Mr. Knott will welcome friends from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Heartford House, Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
