FredSchaserFred Schaser, 89, of Morgantown, Ky., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Ky. Fred was born July 3, 1925, in Vineland, N.J., to the late George and Caroline Bruni Schaser.

He was retired from the Army where he was a WWII Veteran and a Korean Veteran, he also worked at TVA and was a car salesman for Roy Phelps Ford. He was a member of the U.S. Army Pistol Shooting Team where he competed in the 1962 Olympics in Cairo, Egypt. He was a member of Cool Springs General Baptist Church and a member of Cassia Lodge #272 F&AM.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Hazel Bryant Schaser, and second wife, Susie Phelps Schaser; one brother, George Schaser; two grandchildren, Holly Saltzman and Alex Phelps-Foster, and one great-grandchild, Matthew Morgan.

He is survived by five daughters, Taunya Phelps and husband, Gary, of Morgantown, Brenda Phelps and husband, Lee, of Morgantown, Terry Buley of Rough River, Tereesa Odle and husband, Doug, of Morgantown and Katherine Elizabeth Miller of Morgantown; seven grandchildren Kelly Tichenor and husband, Billy, of Morgantown, Gary Phelps and wife, Leigh Ann, of Morgantown, Patrick Phelps of Lexington, Tammy Young of Morgantown, Adrianne Morgan and husband, Todd, of Cromwell, Jonathan Odle of Morgantown and Christie Findley of Morgantown; 13 great-grandchildren, Jacob Phelps, Lucas Tichenor, Easton Phelps, Braden Tichenor, Jenna Phelps, Sarah Fry, Abigail Fry, Jessica Proctor, Andrew Saltzman, Tessa Odle, Clay Odle, Colter Findley and Carsyn Findley; three great-great-grandchildren, one niece and several nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Home Friday, Aug. 15, at 1 p.m. with Bro. Bradley “Buddy” Phelps officiating. Burial will follow in the Grant Phelps Cemetery where Military Honors will be presented. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 14, from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 15, 8 a.m. until time of service at Smith Funeral Home.
