James Cecil Farris, 84, of Echols, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. He was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Ohio County, Ky., to the late Sam and Alma Key Farris.

He was a member of Echols General Baptist Church and he was a carpenter for Peabody Coal Mines.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Birdie Geary Farris, one son, Hank Farris, one grandson, Jonathon Huff, and one brother, Charles Farris.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Hultz Farris; one son, Roy R. (Beatrice) Farris of Echols; two daughters, Jeanette (Dean) Huff of Central City and Mary Jane (Larry) Bidwell of Owensboro; two step-sons, Larry Lomax and Richard Settles; two step-daughters, Diane Sanders and Darlene Settles all of Jeffersonville, Ind.; four sisters, Kathleen (Gordon) Geary of Centertown, Patsy Rowe of McHenry, Effie Raymond and Dorothy Jones both of Beaver Dam. Mr. Farris was blessed with seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Echols General Baptist Church in Echols with Rev. David Hall and Rev. Lealin Geary officiating. Burial will be in Echols Cemetery in Echols. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam and 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the Church.
