OWENSBORO, Ky. – Sharon Kaye Likens Phelps Smith, 77, formerly of Beaver Dam, passed away on May 30, 2026 at The Heartford House. She was born on Dec. 11, 1948, in McHenry, Kentucky, to the late Orvel “Buster” and Mary Ellen Douglas Likens.
Sharon worked many different jobs to help support her family. She learned sewing while working at Cowden’s, Beaver Dam Sportswear and many other sewing operations. Sharon also worked at McDonald’s, Ragu and UniFirst.
She was of the Baptist Faith and had attended Walton’s Creek, Smallhous, Beaver Dam and Woodwards Valley Baptist churches.
She enjoyed sewing quilts and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. William “Bill” Phelps; her sister, Suzie Campbell; brother, Jerry Likens; and one grandson, Matthew Ryan Phelps.
She leaves behind her current husband, Charles “Cort” Smith; two sons, Brian Scott (Amy) Phelps and John Matthew Phelps (Darita Coley); three grandchildren, Austin Phelps, Cameron Phelps and Jasmine Phelps; sister-in-law, Shari Likens; brother-in-law, Mike Campbell; along with several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday, June 5, at 2 p.m. at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Dr. Glenn Armstrong presiding. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, June 4, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Friday from 12 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery.
