Meet the Candidates: Joyce Crump, Republican candidate for 2nd District Magistrate

Joyce Overton Crump and family

I’m Joyce Overton Crump, and I am honored to be a candidate for Magistrate in the 2nd district of Ohio County. I am currently retired and can devote full time to this position.

I was raised in Beaver Dam and graduated from Ohio County High School. I attended Western Kentucky University with a major in nursing, then years later finished my degree at the University of Kentucky.

My husband James and I have two sons and six grandchildren. We currently pastor Beaver Dam Covenant Community Church.

My professional background as an RN included 31 years of Hospice, with 20 years of that time being chief nursing officer, or Director of Hospice.

Along with my staff, I was privileged to serve thousands of patients and their families. I also managed a budget and reported directly to the CEO of major hospitals. I currently serve on the Joint Board of Adjustments for Ohio County. I know how to be a leader and a team player.

If elected, I will focus on the following:

Spending

  • Is it practical spending? Weighing out the long-term effect. Re-evaluating all areas, so spending, protecting our taxpayer dollars by cutting waste, and ensuring every tax dollar delivers real value for the people who earned it.

Transparency

  • Making sure information is posted early and written in such a way that makes sense to us regular people when presented at the fiscal court meetings.
  • Listening to my district’s concerns and issues.
  • Making sure all information is revealed through detailed examination before finalization, concerning any project brought before the fiscal court.

Road Funding

  • Set standards (guidelines).
  • Safety, widely used, service issues.
  • Map out in my district which roads are worse and evaluate those roads on a regular schedule so all are done equally.

I decided to run for 2nd District Magistrate after hearing my community voice concerns regarding the future of our next generation and what we are producing for them. I also attended several Kentucky League of Cities conferences and learned the importance of recognizing Ohio County’s energy and water needs.

I am highly motivated and committed to being involved every step of the way to ensure that my district and county are safe and productive.

That we attract new businesses, and current businesses remain. If I believe in it, I’ll be bold in it.

I ask for your vote on May 19.
