Meet the Candidates: Scott Tichenor, Republican candidate for 3rd District Magistrate

Scott Tichenor and family

My name is Scott G. Tichenor, and I’m running for Third District Magistrate of Ohio County, not as a career politician, but as someone who has lived, worked, and raised a family right here my entire life.

I’m a lifelong resident of the Third District. I grew up in Matanzas, attended McHenry Baptist Church, and today I’m raising my family in the heart of this community. My wife, Amber, and I have seven children who keep us busy and grounded in what truly matters. Family is at the center of everything I do, and it’s a big part of why I decided to run.

I also live on my grandparents’ farm—Bill Tichenor and the late Sharon Tichenor—where we continue the tradition of raising poultry and cattle. That connection to the land and to family roots has shaped who I am and how I see the responsibility of serving this district.

Like many in our community, I wear a lot of hats. I’ve worked underground in the coal mines, I help maintain our family farm, I run my own business, and I’m an avid outdoorsman. These experiences have given me a firsthand understanding of the challenges people in the Third District face every day. Whether it’s making a living, raising a family, or dealing with infrastructure issues, I don’t just hear about these concerns—I live them.

I believe our district deserves a representative who understands its people—our workers, our families, and our seniors—and who recognizes the unique opportunities we have here in what I believe is the best part of Ohio County.

Over the past several months, I’ve spent time talking with folks across the district—on front porches, at community events, and even while cleaning out roadside ditches. Those conversations have shaped my campaign and reinforced what matters most: people want to be heard, and they want leadership that shows up and follows through.

There are many important issues facing our community. Roads and basic infrastructure matter, and they always will, but I also want to focus on solutions that move us forward. That includes improving phone and internet service, attracting more skilled and better-paying jobs, streamlining infrastructure improvements, and exploring tourism opportunities that can benefit our local economy.

I strongly believe in transparency and open communication. Taxpayers deserve to know how decisions are made and how their money is being spent. It’s amazing what we can accomplish when we focus on doing what’s right instead of worrying about who gets the credit.

Even with a busy schedule between family and work, I make it a priority to stay informed by following fiscal court meetings and keeping up with the issues that impact our county. Representation means listening, and if elected, I will make sure your voice is part of every decision I make.

I humbly ask for your support, your vote, and your prayers. If you ever have questions, concerns, or ideas, I encourage you to reach out. You can call or text me at 270-256-4919 or connect with me on social media.

This campaign, and this position, are about representing you.

Sincerely,

Scott G. Tichenor
Candidate for Third District Magistrate of Ohio County
