Meet the Candidates: William Dakota Compton, Democratic candidate for Kentucky’s 2nd Congressional District

In Opinion by OC Monitor Staff

William Dakota Compton

My name is William Dakota Compton, and I am running for the United States House of Representatives because the people of western Kentucky deserve a representative who understands our communities, shows up consistently, and fights to make life more affordable for working families.

Here in Ohio County, like across the 2nd District, I hear the same concerns everywhere I go. Families are stretched thin by rising costs. Farmers are dealing with uncertainty. Young people are leaving because they don’t see opportunity at home. Too many folks feel like Washington simply is not working for them anymore.

As a public school teacher, I see both the challenges and the potential of our future every single day. I work with students who are capable of doing incredible things but face barriers they did not create. That experience shapes how I approach this race. I am not running to play political games or build a career. I am running to solve problems and deliver real results for people right here at home.

That means lowering costs for working families, investing in rural healthcare, and ensuring our schools have the resources they need so every student can succeed. It also means standing up for Kentucky values like hard work, honesty, and looking out for your neighbors.

Ohio County deserves a representative who will actually listen. Not just during election season, but every single day. Someone who will show up in Beaver Dam, Hartford, and every small town in between. Someone who understands that rural communities are not an afterthought, they are the backbone of this country.

This campaign is about building something different. It is about putting people ahead of politics and making sure every voice is heard, not just the loudest or the wealthiest.

If you believe, like I do, that it is time for new leadership that will fight for everyday Kentuckians, I am asking for your support. Together, we can make sure Ohio County and all of western Kentucky have a strong voice in Washington.
