HARTFORD, Ky. — Joann Porter Ashby, 71, of Hartford, passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026, surrounded by her family at her home. She was born Oct. 3, 1954, in Greenville, Kentucky, to the late Herman H. Porter and Ruby Abbott Porter.
Many know Joann from her many years working at Freds.
Aside from her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Gardner and grandson-in-law, Cody Carlisle.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 24 years, John T. Ashby, of Hartford; children, Bryan (Kristina) Bechtel, of Morgantown, Kentucky, Camisha (Jeremy) Payton, of Baizetown, Kentucky, Susie (Davey) Mills, of Owensboro, Kentucky, John David (Jevetta) Ashby, of Horton, Kentucky, and Jeff Ashby, of Hartford; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; siblings, Carrie Ruth Darmond, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Jeanetta (Roger) Nance, of Dixon, Kentucky, Walter (Carolyn) Porter, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, and Keith (Linda) Porter, of Beaver Dam; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, with Rev. Bruce Lindsey and Rev. Jerry Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Cool Spring Cemetery. Friends may visit from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Ohio County and DaVita Dialysis Center for the care they provided to Joann.
