Daniel Pitino Shelter celebrates 32 years of service, launches holiday Fund-A-Family campaign

In Community, Local by OC Monitor Staff

OWENSBORO, Ky. — As the Daniel Pitino Shelter marks its 32nd anniversary, the organization reflects on more than three decades of transforming lives for people and families facing homelessness. Founded with a mission rooted in compassion and community, the shelter has become a beacon of hope, helping thousands transition from emergency shelter to permanent housing.

This holiday season, the shelter is launching its Fund-A-Family campaign, inviting the community to make a direct impact through financial contributions. With government funding covering only 4% of the shelter’s operating budget and previous support from the Pitino family no longer available, local generosity is more critical than ever.

The shelter needs $15,000 each week to sustain operations. Contributions to Fund-A-Family can support:

  • Any amount: Provides essential support for families in crisis
  • $1,000: Funds a room for a family of four
  • $2,500: Shelters up to eight individuals
  • $5,000: Operates the Soup Kitchen for one month, serving 6,000 meals

All donations are tax-deductible and can be made online via Venmo or PayPal (@danielpitinoshelter) or mailed to 501 Walnut Street, Owensboro, KY.

To celebrate the season and raise awareness, the shelter will host its annual Stand Up for Families event on Nov. 21, a night of laughter, community, and impact. Event details are available on the shelter’s website.
