KSP identifies homicide victim from 1990 cold case

OWENSBORO, Ky. — The Kentucky State Police have made progress in identifying a victim from a 1990 cold case. On Jan. 7, 1990, an unidentified male was found deceased in a wooded area off of Pleasant Valley Road in Philpot, Kentucky, in Daviess County.

The unidentified male had been shot several times, beaten and was missing his hands and feet.  Attempts to identify the victim over the years have been unsuccessful.  Recently, with the assistance of the Trans Doe Task Force, the victim was identified through genealogy testing.  The male was identified as William Dennis Mathews, born Oct. 10, 1952, in Louisville, Kentucky.
