BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Effie Evelyn Fulkerson Gaither, 87, died Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Beaver Dam Nursing and Rehab. Evelyn was born in Echols, Kentucky, to the late John D. and Grace Darling Garrett Fulkerson.

She was a retired mine account executive for Peabody Coal Company Eastern Division and a member of Pond Run Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Christopher Gaither.

In a word, Eve was selfless. Having a true servant’s heart, throughout her whole life, she took care of so many around her, always putting others’ needs above her own. To her, there was no such thing as a stranger. Eve loved the Lord and her church, sharing the Word of God and nurturing souls as well as bodies. Whenever her children or grandchildren brought a friend into her home, no matter what time of day or night, she always made sure they felt comfortable and welcomed, were well fed, and usually left with a mug of hot tea.

Her laugh warmed everyone’s heart who heard it. It truly will not be forgotten.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Gene Gaither; two sons, John Avery Gaither (Melissa) and Todd Gaither (Becky); a daughter, April Darling Schneider (Shaun); seven grandchildren, Clay Gaither, Hilary Gaither, Hali Jo Simpson, Katie Sam Smith, Emily Catherine Duncan, Alex Christopher Gaither, Alexandria Reagan Schneider; seven great-grandchildren, KyLee Newcom, Kalix Alford, Collin Gaither, Keeley Gaither, Henry Simpson, Avery Smith, and Jack Duncan.

Services are 12 noon Saturday, March 23, at Pond Run Baptist Church in Echols with Bro. Larry Birkhead officiating. Burial will follow in Pond Run Baptist Church Cemetery in Echols. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The Family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Pond Run Cemetery Fund, c/o Shirley Barnes, 468 Chiggerville Lane, Beaver Dam, KY 42320. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
