HARTFORD, Ky. — John Lee Daniel, of Hartford, passed away at Signature Healthcare of Hartford, on Feb. 13, 2024, with his wife, Sarah; daughter, Marian; and caregivers, Tammy Bratcher, Amber Ball, and Jenn Stanley by his side. John was born July 9, 1940, in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, to the late Albert Carlton and Hannah Belle (Shown) Daniel.

John grew up in Beaver Dam on the family farm. He went to Beaver Dam grade school and Beaver Dam High School before entering the United States Air Force in 1957, where he was stationed in Morocco, North Africa, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Battle Creek, Michigan.

John was an electrician at Sinclair Surface Mines, Peabody Coal Company in Drakesboro, Kentucky for 32 years and at Peabody Camp Mine Complex in Morganfield, Kentucky, until he retired in 2002.

John had been a member of the Hartford Jaycees and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 1905, Beaver Dam High School Class of 1958, and a member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church. John was also one of the few official Soreheads of Hartford.

John is survived by his wife, Sarah Ford Daniel; daughters and sons-in-law, Marian and Todd Keown, of Hawesville, Kentucky, and Sheree and Sandy Douglass, of Lexington, Kentucky; grandsons, Daniel Keown, of Lexington, Jared (Sofia) Keown, of Sundbyberg, Sweden, and Bryan (Abbie) Daniel, of Owensboro, Kentucky; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Jan Daniel, of Independence, Missouri; Sarah’s son, Kevin (Cathy) Cessna, of Greenville, Kentucky; their children, Lane and Saebren; Kevin’s sons, Zander and Zaiver Cessna, of Greenville; Sarah’s brother, John David Ford and Tom (Linda) Ford, both of Greenville; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; and John and Sarah’s neighbors, Paul Keith and Debbie Phelps.

Services will be held at William L. Danks Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, Kentucky, Saturday, Feb. 17. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. with the family. Services to follow at 2 p.m. with Dr. Glenn Armstrong officiating.
