PINVILLE, Ky. — Lonnie Brooks Jr., born March 29, 1944, in Pineville, died at home on Feb. 7, 2024, under the care of Hospice of Ohio County.

Lonnie, “Junior, LB, Lonzo, Daddy, or Grandpa,” lived the way he wanted. He never met a stranger, was always willing to help when you needed it, and sometimes when you didn’t. Lonnie graduated from Owensboro Senior High. He served in the United States Army and the National Guard. Lonnie retired from L&N and CSX Railroad and was a past president and member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance and Way #818.

Lonnie enjoyed fishing, fixing cars, any sports, playing pool, and especially, winning at the horse races. He walked six miles a day with Traveler, his loyal companion until he couldn’t.

If you are in Pleasant Ridge and see the cans hanging from the trees, think of Lonnie. It may have been him to place them in the tree.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Sr. and Alta Brooks.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 52 years, Anna Brooks; daughters, Vera Hanson (Chad), of Philpot, Kentucky, and Eva Brooks, of Alvaton, Kentucky; son by choice, Mike Frantz (Courtney), of Owensboro, Kentucky; loyal companion, Jack; grandchildren, Simon Hanson, of Owensboro, and Tanner Hanson, of Philpot, who were his pride and joy; siblings, Maxie Shain, of Utica, Kentucky, Buddy Brooks (Evelyn), of Leitchfield, Kentucky, and Nyoka Johnston, of Edgewood, Kentucky; mother-in-law, Doris Davis, of Hartford, Kentucky; brother-in-law, James Davis (Sonja), of Hartford; sister-in-law, Betty Sheffield (Ron), of Vine Grove, Kentucky; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The funeral service for Lonnie will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
