BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Betty Jean Bishop Abney, 92, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, with her family by her side at Ohio County Healthcare. She was born April 16, 1931, in Ohio County, Kentucky, to the late Earl Bishop and Lydia Austin Bishop.

Betty worked for Ohio County Hospital as well as Dr. Johnson and Dr. Bennett’s offices. She was an avid UK fan, loved her family, and crocheting. Betty was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.

Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Abney; son, Michael Abney; infant daughter, Elaine Abney, and several siblings.

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory are her son, Marshall (Tamara) Abney, of Richmond, Kentucky; daughter, Lisa (Jerrold) Anderson, of Hartford, Kentucky; daughter-in-law, LaDonna Abney, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Jamie Abney, Keri Abney, John Abney, Ian Abney, Keegan Abney, Andrea Leach, Aaron Gough, and Adrienne Anderson; several great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Bishop; sister, Judy (Jose) Flores; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Kentucky with Dr. Glenn Armstrong officiating. Burial will be private in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Friends may visit with Betty’s family from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Sunday at the funeral home.
