HORSE BRANCH, Ky. — Clifford Cecil Woolen, 82, died on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, at OHRH in Owensboro, Kentucky, surrounded by his family. Clifford was born in Grayson County, Kentucky, on July 9, 1941, to Estil and Delia Woolen of Horse Branch.

Mr. Woolen worked on oil and water wells most of his life. In his free time, Clifford enjoyed spending time with his family, watching Gunsmoke with his great-grandkids, and talking to his buddies at Horse Branch General Store.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Estil and Delia Woolen; brothers, Melvin Woolen, James Woolen, and Delbert Woolen; and sisters, Jean Arseneau, Wilda Woolen, and Aileen Woolen.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margie Paulette Woolen, of Horse Branch; his two children, James C. Woolen, of Horse Branch, and Angie (Avery) Blacklock, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky; his brother, William (Sherlene) Woolen, of Evansville, Kentucky; two sisters, Thelma Hedden, of Evansville, Indiana, and Virble Graves, of Mississippi; six grandchildren, Jamie Burton, of Horse Branch, Andrea (Matthew) Gross, of Centertown, Kentucky, Katlyn Woolen, of Echols, Kentucky, Ethan Gross, of Horse Branch, Samantha (Isaiah) Hurt, of Central City, Kentucky, Dusty (Cody) Woolen, of Hartford, Kentucky, and Dakota Blacklock; he also had seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews that he loved.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Bro. Charlie Lacefield officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam.
