HORSE BRANCH, Ky. — Michael Ray “Poppy” Conner, 52 of Horse Branch, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, at his home. He was born on Feb. 11, 1971, in Boonville, Indiana, to Jo Newman Conner and the late Larry Conner.

Mike was a member of Horse Branch Christian Church and a board member of the Rosine Fire Department. He was a 1989 graduate of Greenville High School, a proud Blackhawk, quarterback for the football team, and pitcher for the baseball team. Mike was also a graduate of Western Kentucky University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree.

If there was one thing that his family knew, more than anyone, his children, that Mike was a free spirit. “He could act out being a responsible adult flawlessly when needed, knew the value of life, and didn’t waste any of it. He created an endless amount of excitement daily for those he loved. He would pick, poke, and prod till your blood would boil, and you would have to scream ‘knock it off!’ Just to do it all over one more time and tell you he loved you. My dad was the man that raised me, that taught me to be a man, that I looked up to, and a friend when I needed him. Here’s to the times we can’t tell mom about. I will love and miss you always.” Words from his son.

Aside from his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Athel and Genevieve Conner, and James and Sally Newman.

He leaves behind to cherish many precious memories, his wife of 31 years, JeriAnna Sandefur Conner, of Horse Branch; two children, Logan (Chevie) Conner, of Horse Branch, and Lindsey Conner, of Horse Branch; three grandchildren, Remington, Raegan and CashLynn; his mother, Jo Conner, of Horse Branch; one sister, Teresa Conner, of Jackson, Missouri; his mother- and father-in-law, Buddy and JoAnn Sandefur, of Horse Branch; and nieces and nephews, Bo, Blake, Gwendolyn, Clayton, Seth, Brandon, Jalyn, and Marissa.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Joey Minor, Jason Anderson, and Terry Tarrance officiating. Friends may visit with Mike’s family from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
