HORSE BRANCH, Ky. — Anna “Fay” Autry, 75, of Horse Branch, passed away on Aug. 8, 2023. She was born Nov. 19, 1947, at home in Rosine, Kentucky, to the late Tom and Eva Autry.

Fay worked for 50+ years for Kentucky Business Enterprise Program for the Blind, KBEP, and held a variety of jobs through KBEP, most recently including full-service canteens at Ft. Campbell and Ft. Knox Army bases. Over the years, Fay was actively involved in KBEP, sitting on many committees, mentoring new members, and debating rules and regulations.

In 2002, while working at Jefferson County Courthouse in Louisville, Kentucky, Mayor David Armstrong proclaimed Feb. 12 to be Fay Autry Day. She had an adventurous spirit and blindness did not stop her from having a fulfilling life. She was an avid reader, and no doubt held a world record of some type for the number of books read. Fay not only enjoyed reading but enjoyed sharing the love of reading with friends and family, spending countless hours sharing story plots, recommending books, and always requesting new reads. She enjoyed a wide range of genres, from Amish/Christian to James Patterson, as well as biographies and medical reads. Reading was her passion.

In her younger years, Fay enjoyed white water rafting, fishing, camping, playing cards/bunco with friends, hosting dinner parties, ballroom dancing, and theater. She loved to travel; her most recent trip was in 2019 to Europe.

Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Pruitt Raymond, and two brothers, Gerald and Ronnie Autry.

Fay is survived by her daughter, Shelia (Johnny) Nance, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Samantha (Erin) Raley, of Owensboro, Kentucky, Jessica Raley (Troy) Fox, of Kansas City, Missouri, Conner Raymond, of Horse Branch, and Katie Raymond (Chandler) Barnett, of Owensboro; one great-grandchild, Theodore Shartzer-Raley, of Owensboro; one brother, Kenny (Sharon) Autry, of Horse Branch; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Kentucky with Bro. Conner Raymond and Samantha Raley officiating. Friends may visit with Fay’s family from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. A Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at Rosine Cemetery.

Fay’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Palliative Care of Ohio County.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to The American Printing House for the Blind, 1839 Frankfort Avenue, Louisville, KY 40206.
