GRDHD reports 16 new COVID-19 cases, 1 COVID-19 death in Ohio County

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Tuesday, December 20, 2022, the Green River District Health Department reported that in the previous week it had investigated 365 new COVID-19 infections; 164 in Daviess County, 13 in Hancock County, 104 in Henderson County, 14 in McLean County, 16 in Ohio County, 34 in Union County and 20 in Webster County.

There were four COVID-19-related deaths reported in the previous week. The COVID-19-related deaths were two residents of Daviess County, one resident of Ohio County and one resident of Union County.

With the death of one Ohio Countian last week, a total of 120 Ohio Countians have died due to COVID-19-related complications. Since the week of Aug. 22-28, 15 Ohio Countians have died from COVID-19-related complications.

The average number of new cases in the district for that period was 52.1 new cases a day.

The newly reported cases were investigated between December 12-18, 2022.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides information to help communities decide what prevention steps to take based on the latest COVID-19 data. COVID-19 Community Levels for every county can be found at cdc.gov.

Levels can be low, medium, or high and are determined by looking at hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area.

The COVID-19 Community Level is currently classified as medium for Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio and Union Counties, and low for Webster County.

In addition to confirmed COVID-19 cases, flu and other respiratory illnesses remain widespread in all areas.

GRDHD encourages all its residents to:

  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and boosters. Get vaccinated for flu.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Get tested if you have symptoms.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; use hand sanitizer if you do not have access to soap and water.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes.
  • Talk to your doctor about wearing a mask if you are at high risk for severe illness.
  • People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask. Additional precautions may be needed for people at high risk for severe illness.
