MARGATE, Fla. — Richard Arlyn Shaffer, 78, of Margate, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2022, in Deerfield Beach, Florida, with his son by his side. He was born Oct. 11, 1944, in Mason City, Iowa, to the late Raymond Alvin Shaffer and Clara Alice Shaner Shaffer.
He was a machinery mechanic. He enjoyed watching basketball, football, and playing poker with friends. His favorite teams were Kentucky Wildcats and the Miami Dolphins.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Janice Paulette Black Shaffer, on July 18, 2011.
He is survived by his son, Shawn Kirtley Shaffer and his fiancé, Felicia Bitonti, and her daughter, Leia Bitonti, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Burial will be private at Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam, Kentucky. William L. Danks Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
