GRDHD reports 378 new COVID-19 cases; 35 new cases in Ohio County

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, the Green River District Health Department reported that in the previous week it had investigated 378 new COVID-19 infections; 214 in Daviess County, 15 in Hancock County, 65 in Henderson County, 16 in McLean County, 35 in Ohio County, 17 in Union County, and 16 in Webster County.

There were no COVID-19-related deaths reported in the previous week.

The average number of new cases in the district for that period was 54 new cases a day. The newly reported cases were investigated between Nov. 28-Dec.4, 2022.

Ohio County’s new case number this week was up 22 cases from the previous week’s report, which had Ohio County’s new case number at 13. Ohio County has lost 14 residents due to COVID-19-related complications since mid-August.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides information to help communities decide what prevention steps to take based on the latest COVID-19 data. COVID-19 Community Levels for every county can be found at cdc.gov.

Levels can be low, medium, or high and are determined by looking at hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area.

The COVID-19 Community Level is currently classified as medium for Daviess, Hancock, McLean, and Ohio Counties, and low for Henderson, Union, and Webster Counties. Ohio County’s COVID-19 Community Level was low in last week’s report.

In addition to the increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases, flu and other respiratory illnesses remain widespread in all areas.

GRDHD encourages all its residents to:

  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and boosters. Get vaccinated for flu.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Get tested if you have symptoms.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; use hand sanitizer if you do not have access to soap and water.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes.
  • Talk to your doctor about wearing a mask if you are at high risk for severe illness.
  • People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask. Additional precautions may be needed for people at high risk for severe illness.
