OLATON, Ky. — Garland Gene Woolen, 72, of Olaton, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, at his residence. He was born on Oct. 5, 1949, in Olaton, the son of the late Alfred and Junie May Payton Woolen.

Garland attended Shiloh Methodist Church. He enjoyed shopping at yard sales and flea markets, as well as, fishing, coon hunting, and small engine repair.

Aside from his parents, Garland was preceded in death by four brothers, Jesse, Denver, Billy, and Donald Woolen, and one sister, Ella May Duncan.

Left to honor Garland’s memory are his wife of 54 years, Shirley Geary Woolen; one daughter, Pam Preston (James); one son, Rick Woolen; four grandchildren, Tracy Stewart (Daniel), Samantha Forbes (Jimmy), Cheyanne Woolen, and Adam Woolen (Abby); nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Genevieve McCormick.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at Caneyville Memorial Chapel with Bro. Charlie Taylor officiating. Burial will be in McGrady Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
