Betty Jean (Allen) Gilstrap

CROMWELL, Ky. — Betty Jean (Allen) Gilstrap passed away peacefully at Ohio County Hospital on Sept. 11, 2022. Betty was born on Jan. 31, 1938 to Cecil and Edith (Craig) Allen.

Betty was a long-time employee of the Ohio County Board of Education where she worked as a school bus driver for many years while simultaneously working in the cafeteria of the Ohio County High school between bus routes.

She was also known by many in her community as the Bookmobile Lady for several years before retiring.

Betty was of the Baptist faith and loved going to church with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved playing bingo, bunco, and family gatherings. Betty was a Mamaw to more than just her grandchildren and will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Ray Gilstrap; a son, James Lowell Gilstrap; and a daughter, Vicki Jean (Gilstrap) Osborne.

Survived by her sons, Barry Ray Gilstrap (Becky) and Roger Glen Gilstrap (Letha); daughter, Cristi Rudge; her loving son-in-law of many years, David Osborne (Delia); and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Please join us at William L. Danks Funeral Home to celebrate Betty’s life. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. for family and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with service immediately following on Friday, Sept. 16, 2022.
