BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Benzell E. Bard Sr., 83, of Beaver Dam, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born March 10, 1939, in Greenville, Kentucky, to the late James Alverna Bard and Sarah Martin Bard.

Mr. Bard retired from Peabody Coal Company. He also worked for the City of Beaver Dam, served on Beaver Dam City Council, was a member of Barnes Chapel United Methodist Church, Morris #48 Masonic Lodge, and Beaver Dam Jaycee’s.

Aside from his parents, Mr. Bard was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Esther Finn Bard, and 11 siblings.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory are four children, Benzell E. Bard Jr., of Owensboro, Kentucky, Elder James Andre (Sonja) Bard, of Woodbury, Tennessee, Dana Bard (Danette Allen), of Glasgow, Kentucky, and Donna (Steven) Stone, of Henderson, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Marcus, Dante, Lathan, and Desmond Bard, and Eboni and Cierra Nash; five great-grandchildren, Zamya and Zayden Canter, and Leo, Ezekiel, and Issaiah Bard; one sister, Mary Harriford, of Flint, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Barnes Chapel United Methodist Church in Beaver Dam with Shateka Bard officiating. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Friends may visit with Mr. Bard’s family from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church. William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Kentucky has been entrusted with arrangements.
