GRDHD reports 104 new COVID-19 cases, 2 COVID-19 deaths in Ohio County

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, the Green River District Health Department reported that in the previous week it had investigated 941 new COVID-19 infections; 397 in Daviess County, 65 in Hancock County, 235 in Henderson County, 16 in McLean County, 104 in Ohio County, 63 in Union County and 61 in Webster County.

There were seven COVID-19 deaths reported the previous week. The reported deaths were two residents of Daviess County, one resident of Henderson County, one resident of McLean County, two residents of Ohio County and one resident of Webster County.

While Ohio County’s new COVID-19 cases for the week of Aug. 22-28 were down 28 cases from the previous week’s report, there were two COVID-19-related deaths. The two Ohio County deaths in this week’s report were the first reported since the July 5 GRDHD report. One Ohio Countian death was reported July 5. A total of 107 Ohio Countians have died due to COVID-19-related complications.

The average number of new cases in the district for that period was 134 new cases a day. The newly reported cases were investigated between Aug. 22- 28, 2022. County-level data for COVID-19 can be found at kycovid19.ky.gov and cdc.gov. Additional county-level guidance can be found at COVID.gov.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides information to help communities decide what prevention steps to take based on the latest COVID-19 data. COVID-19 Community Levels for every county can be found at cdc.gov.

Levels can be low, medium, or high and are determined by looking at hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area.

The COVID-19 Community Level is currently classified as high for all seven Green River District counties. Green River District includes Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union, and Webster Counties.

GRDHD encourages all its residents to:

  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and boosters.
  • Wear a well-fitting mask in indoor public settings.
  • If you are immunocompromised or high risk for severe disease, talk to your healthcare provider
    about whether you need or take other precautions. Those at high risk should consider avoiding non-essential indoor public activities.
  • Follow CDC recommendations for isolation and quarantine, including getting tested if you are exposed to COVID-19 or have symptoms of COVID-19.
  • People may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.
