OCTC Speech & Debate team win CC state tourney

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Owensboro Community & Technical College’s Tammy M. Rice Speech and Debate Society competed at the Kentucky Forensics Association State Tournament hosted by Western Kentucky University, Feb. 11-12, 2022, the tournament was held virtually.

The OCTC team placed first in the Community College – Sweepstakes for Debate, and earned first place in the Community College Division – Individual Events. The team also placed second place overall in the Individual Events Sweepstakes.

The OCTC Team was made up of Heaven Taylor, Kayla Mohon, Caleb Rush, and David Daniel.

Daniel was an IPDA Quarterfinalist, he advanced to the quarterfinals and earned fifth place in IPDA Debate. Daniel also competed in the Speech Events Quadrathon-earning a fourth-place finish and was the top community college and novice debater, earning a third-place award. Daniel also earned top community college honors in Dramatic Interpretation, and Impromptu earning top novice, top community college speaker and a fourth-place award. Daniel was also a finalist in Extemporaneous Speaking.

Mohon, of Hartford, was a finalist, named as the top novice, and was named as the and top community college speaker for the Persuasive division.

Rush has a second-place finish and earned top novice and top community college speaker honors in Radio Broadcasting. He also earned a fourth-place finish and was named top community college speaker in Editorial Impromptu Speaking. Rush also earned a third-place finish and top novice, and top community college speaker for the Extemporaneous Speaking.

The KFA Student Assembly selected Dr. Bob Glenn as 2022 KFA Coach of the Year.
