HARTFORD, Ky. — Howard Davis Stone, 81, of Hartford, formerly of Webster County, Kentucky, passed away at Signature Healthcare in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022.

Howard retired from Dotiki Mines after 31 years of service. He was the mine safety director and also led the mine rescue team for several years.

He was a member and elder of the Lisman Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lisman, Kentucky. He had also served as an elder at Ashland Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Clay, Kentucky.

He was a founding member of the Thumbpicker’s Hall of Fame. Howard loved singing gospel music in the Homecoming Quartet. He loved watching Western movies and loved spending time with his family.

Howard was preceded in death by his first wife of 47 years, Myrna Stone; one daughter, Roxie Ann Stone; one sister, Elizabeth Haner; two brothers, Wayne Stone; and Rev. Paul Stone. He was the son of the late, Wiley Veston and Modest M. Stone.

Survivors include his wife of 14 years Janice Himes Stone, of Hartford; two daughters, Debbie Capps (Albert), of Clay; Donna Stone (Richard Williamson), of Havana, Florida; three sons, Howard Davis Jr. (Davy) Stone (Robert Kraus), and Zachary Ashby and Adam (Kelsi) Ashby, all of Bowling Green; two brothers, Thomas Stone, of Pinckneyville, Kentucky, and David Stone, of Dixon, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Stone, of Clay, and Jana Perkins (Alan), of Providence, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Todd, Lyndsey, and Donnie; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon, Kentucky. Steve Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in Old Cedar Grove Cemetery in Tilden, Kentucky. Friends may visit on Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
