Be prepared for slow moving traffic, lane closures while crews work to clear highways

MADISONVILLE, Ky. — KYTC District 2 crews are into the 7th day of clearing debris from highways across the district, focusing on those counties that have been hit the hardest, Christian, Caldwell, Hopkins, Ohio and Muhlenberg.

“As usual, KYTC crews were the first emergency responders on site,” said Chief District Engineer Deneatra Henderson. “We understand that our role is to clear the roadways so that other emergency responders can do their jobs. Our initial response was quick and impressive, but the effort for full cleanup will be thoughtful and deliberate. We are coordinating with city and county governments in each impacted area to confirm approved debris sites during this phase of the cleanup efforts.”

Crews outside the District 2 region are providing assistance for the area as well. Several other highway districts and local county governments are providing manpower and equipment to speed up the recovery process.

The areas in focus are those routes with the most damage that typically carry a large volume of traffic. Those routes include:

Caldwell – KY U.S. 62 between MP 9 – MP 19

Muhlenberg – KY 175 between MP 14 and 25

Hopkins – U.S. 41 between MP 9 – MP 11

Hopkins – KY 112 between MP 0 – MP 7

Ohio – KY 1164 between MP 0.0 – MP 8

Christian – I-24 between MP 84 – 86

Motorists can expect lane closures while this work is addressed.
