BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Roy Gene Dixon, 81, of Beaver Dam, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2021, at Ohio County Healthcare surrounded by his family. He was born Thursday, May 9, 1940, in McCreary County, Kentucky, to the late Harrison and Rosa Mae Flynn Dixon.

Roy retired from Peabody Coal Company and was a member of Bible Baptist Church. He was an avid UK basketball fan, he enjoyed playing his guitar, bluegrass music and he loved coffee and his dollar store vanilla cookies.

Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Hobert Dixon, James Lonnie Dixon, Hershel Dixon, and Cecil Dixon.

Roy leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 49 years, Sharon McKeown Dixon, of Beaver Dam; three daughters, Angie (Clyde) Shaffer, of Sacramento, Kentucky, Shanna (Sumeet) Agarwal, of Spring Hill, Tennessee, and Shawna (Jody) Lacefield, of Philpot, Kentucky; and four siblings, Don (Barb) Dixon, of Stearns, James “Junior” Dixon, of Beaver Dam, Clara Winchester, of Oxford, Indiana, and Betty Burden, of Beaver Dam. Roy was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Nathan (Esther) Shaffer, Matthew (Laurie) Shaffer, Rebekah Shaffer, Luke Shaffer, Abi Shaffer, Kaysen Welborn, Sunil Agarwal, Cody Lacefield, Katie Lacefield, Kallie Lacefield and Cassidy Lacefield, and six great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Shaffer, Tyler Shaffer, Savannah Shaffer, Howie Shaffer, Jewell Shaffer, and Maisy Shaffer.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at William L. Danks Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Shaver officiating. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Friends may visit with Roy’s family 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
