FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet invites the public to review and offer comments on a draft plan for the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program for fiscal years 2021 through 2024.

The cabinet will allow 30 days for inspection and comment. The 30 day period began yesterday, May 10, 2021. Any individual, agency or organization may submit comments.

“Transportation in Kentucky means more than roads and bridges,” Kentucky Transportation Secretary Jim Gray said. “Our statewide program has many parts, including public transportation, aviation and recreational trails, plus programs that are designed to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution. Accordingly, the draft plan presents multi-modal transportation planning as a big picture.”

The draft STIP includes all federally funded, scheduled projects in the 2020 State Highway Plan enacted by the 2020 Kentucky General Assembly and Gov. Andy Beshear. It also contains links to Kentucky’s nine Metropolitan Planning Organizations that identify federal projects in their individual transportation improvement plans. MPOs represent the following urbanized areas: Bowling Green, Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky, Clarksville-Oak Grove, Evansville-Henderson, Huntington-Ashland-Ironton, Lexington, Louisville, Owensboro, and Radcliff-Elizabethtown.

“This is your opportunity as citizens of Kentucky and users of our transportation system to offer feedback as we collectively chart a path for improvement and maintenance of that system,” Secretary Gray said.

In this draft, Ohio County has nine projects scheduled, including:

  • Addressing the deficiencies of the Quarterhorse Ln. bridge over Panther Creek for a cost of $90,000 for one project and a cost of $440,000 of another scheduled for FY 2021.
  • Addressing the pavement condition of the Western Kentucky Parkway, in both directions, from milepoint 65.68 to milepoint 83.3 for a cost of $20,878,000 scheduled for FY 2021.
  • Reconstructing the existing Natcher Parkway/KY 69 N Interchange (Exit 50) for a cost of $9,000,000 scheduled for FY 2021.
  • Addressing the pavement condition on Ky 136/Livermore Rd. from milepoint 0.00 to milepoint 9.60 for a cost of $1,250,000 scheduled for FY 2022.
  • Installing two guardrails on KY 69 for a cost of $32,000 and $43,000 scheduled for FY 2022.
  • Installing a guardrail on U.S. 62 for a cost of $8,000 scheduled for FY 2024.
  • Replacing, improving alignments and approaches and addressing the safety issues with bridges on KY 136/Livermore Rd. from Ky 56 in McLean county to U.S. 231 N in Ohio County for a cost of $14,730,000 scheduled for FY 2023.
