BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Mary Rachel Combs, of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky on Feb. 20, 2021, at 3:45 a.m. She was born on Feb. 9, 1931, in Vicco, Kentucky, to the late Miles and Etta Mae Tolliver Cook.

Not only was Mary a committed homemaker she was also a talented seamstress for both her family and many others. For years Mary made all of her daughters’ school clothes, prom dresses, and their wedding dresses often duplicating outfits she saw in clothing stores.

Mary was also an avid reader and had become very adept at downloading books onto her Kindle. She loved to bowl and was in a bowling league for many years. In earlier years, she also enjoyed being a member of Bridge and Rook clubs.

Prior to the last year of her life, Mary never went a day without putting on make-up and being impeccably dressed. One of the things she instilled in her daughters was to never leave the house without make-up.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Marcus Combs, and her sister, Louise Auten.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to their mother’s Bible study class at the Beaver Dam Baptist Church for all of their cards over the past year.

She is survived by four daughters, Joyce Lee Wyatt (Allen Cardwell), of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Polly Ann Stone, of Owensboro, Kentucky, Teresa Louise Edwards (Dr. Van Edwards), of Marion, South Carolina, and Sarah Lynn May (Tommy Singleton), of Beaver Dam; seven grandchildren, Gabriel J. Wyatt, Eric Whitfield (Shannon), Ericka Loomis (John), Cody Stone (Rob Goodman), Olivia Edwards (Justin Matthews), Rachel Taylor Bowling (Blake), and Willoby Himes; and four great-grandchildren, Zoey Whitfield, Connor Whitefield, Crosby Bowling, Cadence, and Corbin Loomis

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam with Pastor John Cashion officiating. William L. Danks Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial donations to the Heartford House, 2914 old Hartford Rd, Owensboro, KY 42303.
