HORSE BRANCH, Ky. — John Henry McGinnis, 49, of Horse Branch, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2020. He was born May 3, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Bobby McGinnis and Marcella Geary McGinnis.

He was the owner of Peebles Construction Company. He loved fishing and helping anyone in need. In 2018 John was named “Mr. Kentucky” after his work during Hurricane Harvey in Texas.

Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Martha Bates Geary; sisters, Priscella “Pebbles” Santillana and Sheree Crowe Fuqua; and father at heart, Robert Henry Crowe.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie McGinnis; three children, Madison (Blake) Harp, Star McGinnis, and River McGinnis; two sisters, Lorice “Resse” (Genaro) Montes and Jacqueline Hirsch; three brothers, Josh (Brenda) McGinnis, DJ McGinnis, and Mark (Katina) Crowe; mother at heart, Regina Crowe; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as a host of friends from all over the country.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, with Rev. Gerald Crabb officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery in Horse Branch. Friends may visit with John’s family from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
