Sandefur issues exective order to help Beaver Dam restaurants

In Local, News by OC Monitor Staff

BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Mayor Paul Sandefur is doing all he can to make sure Beaver Dam restaurants are able to get up and going as the economy begins to slowly open up from its coronavirus hibernation.

Sandefur issued an executive order today allowing Beaver Dam restaurants and microbreweries to place tables, chairs and other items on city sidewalks, the public way and adjacent private property during the current COVID-19 state of emergency.

Gov. Andy Beshear has released guidelines for a phased reopening of the economy, known as Healthy At Work. As part of these guidelines, restaurants can reopen dining rooms May 22, but at 33 percent capacity. Gov. Beshear has spoken in favor of outdoor dining as an alternative to indoor dining. Outdoor dining would be much safer for patrons and employees when it comes to spreading coronavirus.

The executive order states City Superintendent Larry Carter will develop the guidelines and regulations to allow the placement of tables, chairs and other items on city sidewalks, the public way and adjacent private property.

Any city regulations conflicting with the executive order will be suspended until the city issues an order saying otherwise.
