HARTFORD, Ky. — Ohio County Healthcare, along with Governor Andy Beshear, is urging the people of Ohio County to get tested for COVID-19, even if you have no symptoms. Testing is open to everyone and there are many ways to get tested.

During today’s update from Gov. Beshear, he urged people in Ohio County to get tested through Kroger Health at the Ohio County Park. Testing will be available from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, through Thursday, May 21. The Ohio County Park is at 2300 KY 69 N in Hartford. You must pre-register at https://www.krogerhealth.com/services

“In Ohio County right now, on our first day, Tuesday (May 19), we only have 87 people signed up,” Gov. Beshear said. “If we’re going to combat this, if we’re going to reopen our economy in these areas, we’ve got to do better than that. We need at least 300 people to go online today (Monday, May 18) to sign up for a test (Tuesday, May 19). Wednesday, we only have 45 people signed up for 350 spots. Thursday, we have 13 people signed up. There is a huge amount of testing available. The kits are there. The people are ready. So let’s make sure in (Ohio County), we get signed up.”

Gov. Beshear pointed out that testing and tracing will help people stay safe. Tracing is the act of tracing all the people who may have had contact with a COVID-19 patient. Once those people have been informed, they should isolate themselves until they can be tested for the disease.

“If you are feeling well, and we have testing sites in your area, you need to get tested. Get tested before you go back to work. Get tested to make sure you don’t have it to potentially expose it to your kids. Let’s get tested so you won’t go to the grocery store when you might not know you have it,” Gov. Beshear implored. “We need (everyone to get tested) both to contain the virus and because we’re going to need to know when people are asymptomatic because that’s when people spread (the coronavirus) the most. To reduce the spread we need to find those asymptomatic people. We also don’t know how many people out there actually have it. It’s important for data. It’s also important to protect people.”

Besides Kroger Health, for those in Fordsville, from 9-11:30 a.m., tomorrow, May 19, the Green River District Health Department will provide testing from a mobile unit at the Fordsville Elementary School. For more information or to schedule an appointment, visit https://healthdepartment.org.
