HARTFORD, Ky. — The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a new phone scam using a number belonging to Ohio County Government.
According to Sheriff Tracy Beatty, if you receive a call from the phone number 270-298-4408, this is a call from a scammer. Do not answer the phone or if you answered the call, hang up immediately. Do not give out any personal identification to anyone using the number above.
The number is actually a fax number belonging to the Ohio County government. No outgoing calls are made from this number.
The Sheriff’s Office know of at least two people who have received a call with the caller ID showing this number. The call is not coming from the number, but instead being masked to hide the real number.
