WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Margaret Richards Powell Stivers, 92, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side at Arbor Springs of West Des Moines, Iowa, Dec. 14, 2018. Margaret was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Oak Station (Fordsville), Kentucky, to Rolla Richards and Flossie Matthews Richards.
She was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church. She was a beautician for many years and retired from J.C. Penney’s in Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Dallas Matthews Richards, Viola Mae Stephens, Rolla Richards Jr. (Pete), and Billy Don Richards.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Robert A. Stivers, of Clive, Iowa; children, Donna Gorman (Roy), of Lewisport, Kentucky, Diana Smith, of Mequon, Wisconsin, Mike Powell (Charlene), of Statesboro, Georgia, Julie Jones (Chris), of Overland Park, Kansas, and Jill Madaus (Kris), of Santa Maria, California; sisters, Alberta Hobbs, of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Shirley Boswell, of Dundee, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Bonnie Richards, of Fordsville; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Geary Funeral Home with burial to follow in Beatty Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
