LEWISPORT, Ky. — Joseph (Darrell) Evans, 77, of Lewisport, formerly of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at his home. He was born March 31, 1941, in Daviess County, Kentucky, to Jordan Bryant and Mary Hermie Cecil Evans.

Darrell attended Catholic schools and played the guitar at various places such as the Trail-A-Way Barn Dance. He was a mechanic all his life and worked first for Raymond Jenkins, then Bobby Roberts Automotive, and finally owned and operated Jenkins Garage in Owensboro before retiring.

He loved to go hawg fishin’ with his family at his brother Jordan’s (June) lake in Whitesville, Kentucky, and he also loved a good joke, especially when he could play one on his brothers and sisters. He loved to tell stories of his growing up with his cousins at his Uncle Louis Edge’s place.

He relished time with his grandchildren. He was the best Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa and will be sorely missed.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul Evans, Shirley Evans, Jordan Evans, Donald Evans, Anthony “Mickey” Evans, James “Chick” Evans, Larry Evans, and Jerry Evans; his sisters, Mona, Josephine, Mary Agnes, Marian Helen, and Mildred Gertisen; a granddaughter, Isabella Deanne Hardin; and a grandson, Cody Alan Smith.

Surviving are his wife Cynthia “Cindy” Evans; sons, Tom Evans, of Phoenix, Arizona, Darin Evans, of Owensboro, Greg Evans, of Maryland; a stepson, Alan Smith, of Butler County, Kentucky; daughters, Sara Evans Goodall, of Lewisport, and Mari Evans Hardin, of Fordsville, Kentucky; granddaughters, Jessica Evans, of Phoenix, Abby, Avery, and Elly Goodall, of Owensboro, and Olivia Hardin, of Fordsville; grandsons, Creed and Jacob Hardin, of Fordsville; stepgranddaughters, Alyssa Turner (Adam), of Morgantown, Kentucky, and Brittany Hudnall (Matt), of Lewisburg, Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Riley Evans, of Phoenix, Aiden, Ayla, Jazlyn, and Jett Turner, Jayce and Kendrick Smith, Leah Smith, Cash and Waylon Hudnall, all of Butler County; a brother, Cecil Evans, of Phoenix; two sisters, Betty Buckman, of Owensboro, and Charlotte Tansey, of New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
