Submitted by Larry Keown, incumbent Republican candidate for 4th District Magistrate

I am a Republican candidate looking forward to continuing my service as magistrate of the Fourth District of Ohio County. I have lived my entire life in Ohio County in the Fordsville area. I am a graduate of Fordsville High School and later attended Owensboro Vocational and Technical School where I studied electronics and industrial electricity. I have two adult children, Justin and Kourtney Keown. I was a self-employed individual for 20 years, and I am now semi-retired as I continue to maintain my rental properties and serve as a member of the Ohio County Fiscal Court.

During my 28 year tenure as a magistrate, much has been accomplished by the Ohio County Fiscal Court. We have succeeded in taking the Fourth District from less than 50 percent of residents having access to county water to 99 percent. We have improved the infrastructure of the 660 miles of county roads, of which 200 alone are in the Fourth District. This includes replacing wooden bridges, sizeable tiles and adding miles of chip and seal and black top throughout the district. We have improved a road department that was operating with inadequate equipment and have purchased new trucks and equipment so that the road department could better serve the entire county.

If re-elected, my intent is to continue the financial support of the Fordsville branch of the County Clerk’s Office, the Fordsville ambulance station, the Fordsville and Dundee Fire Departments and the North Ohio County Park. I am also focused on making Ohio County an attractive option for industry and we have built an excellent industrial park that includes first class infrastructure and the ability to expand.

One of the primary duties of a magistrate is to manage the fiscal affairs of the county. My goal has always been to spend your tax dollars in the most beneficial way. I have striven to remain conservative to make your tax dollars count. I have spent many years working with the county budget, participated in tough negotiations, and fought for the financial needs of the largest district in the county. Maintaining the largest district sometimes poses a more complex challenge, and my experience in doing so allows me to feel confident in my ability to get the job done.

As your magistrate, I have kept open the lines of communication with the constituents of the fourth district. I have always kept a land line and my phone number listed so that I can be easily contacted for problems or concerns that my constituents may have. I take pride in the fact that I have managed to attend all but two fiscal court meetings in my entire 28 years of service.

Upon re-election, I will remain dedicated to serving the constituents of the Fourth District and the county as a whole. I hope that you allow me to continue this privilege. Thank you for your continued support, and I would appreciate your vote in the May 22 Primary Election.
