HARTFORD, Ky. — The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a potential threat of violence made about the Ohio County High School.

According to Ohio County Sheriff Tracy Beatty, the threat was found today, by school officials, written on a wall in the high school. After it was discovered, those officials reported it to the school resource deputy.

As a result of the investigation by the Ohio County High School Resource Deputy, it is believed to not be credible due to the time frame of the threat, although the investigation is open and ongoing.

The Sheriff’s Office, along with the Ohio County Board of Education has two full-time school resource deputies. The Sheriff’s Office has assigned extra deputies to the high school as a precautionary measure.

“In light of recent events across the United States, we have increased our police presence in all of our schools,” Beatty said. “Our office will also conduct walk-through patrols at the high school after normal school hours.”

Beatty said his office has been in contact with the Beaver Dam Police Department, Hartford Police Department, and Kentucky State Police about this situation.

“All local law enforcement agencies will be conducting extra patrols at our schools. The Sheriff’s Office will continue to work closely alongside the Ohio County School system with any issues facing our schools,” Beatty said. “The Sheriff’s Office takes any and all threats to our schools very seriously. We will take any and all measures necessary to insure the safety of our children.”
