OWENSBORO, Ky. — Maude C. Mitchell Dugger Spencer, 94, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away Jan. 27, 2018, at Wellington Parc in Owensboro after a lengthy illness. She was born on Aug. 21, 1923, in Ohio County, Kentucky, to the late Murray Mitchell and Elizabeth Glover Mitchell.
She graduated from Fordsville High School as valedictorian of her class. She married Lemuel Volney Dugger Jr. of Madisonville, Kentucky, in 1942. After he returned from the war they moved their family to Owensboro.
She was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church and a Lady Kentucky Colonel. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary. She retired from General Electric Company where she was active with the union, serving on the Bargaining Committee for many years. She enjoyed traveling, contesting, and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lemuel V. Dugger; an infant son; a daughter, Karen Sue; a grandson, Brian Foster; and a brother, Keith Mitchell.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Lee Wells; two sons, Gary Dennis Dugger (Gaylia), and Lemuel V. Dugger III (Vickie); a sister, Betty Elder, of Tell City, Indiana; half-brothers, Eddie Mitchell and William Carrol Mitchell, both of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.
Services are 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro with Brother Farrell Isenberg officiating. Burial is in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville, Kentucky. Visitation is from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
