Charlotte Weakley Hays,

In Obituaries by OC Monitor Staff

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Charlotte Weakley Hays, 98, of Owensboro, went to be with her Lord Jan. 10, 2018, at approximately 3:30 p.m. at Signature Nursing Home at Hillcrest. Mrs. Hays was born in Montgomery County, Tennessee, on May 20, 1919. She was a daughter of the late Luther Lee Weakley and Hattie Williams Weakley and was the last living sibling of the Weakley’s union.

In Mrs. Hays’ nearly 99 years on this earth she had many interests. She was a Christian who was a long term member of Concord Baptist Church in Ohio County, Kentucky. Besides her life in Todd County, she lived in Detroit, Michigan, Hartford, Kentucky, and lastly Owensboro.

She was full of life and energy up to the day of her death. She loved to cook! This was evident in her long career in the food service industry as she served in the restaurant business while living in Detroit and as she was a cook for many years at the Ohio County Country Club and retired from Bob’s IGA in Hartford.

She loved to dance and be with and serve her family. She was the one who always brought her brothers, sisters and other relatives together and would put aside anything to serve those she loved. Although in her later years her memory faded, her love for the family was still very evident. She was loved and will be greatly missed!

Mrs. Hays was preceded in death by her late husband, David T. Hays, with whom she was married for more than 45 years. Also preceding her in death are her stepmother, Lottie Weakley, and her brothers and sisters, Mabel Leigh Banton, Howard L. Weakley, B. Durward Weakley, Claude A. Weakley, James W. Weakley, Sarah Belle Keifer, and Billy W. Weakley.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews residing all over the country.

Services will take place Thursday at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Schapmire Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Guthrie, Kentucky, on Friday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Campus Crusade for Christ, 9707 Morgantown Road, Bowling Green, KY 42101. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home.
