OWENSBORO, Ky. — Phyllis Rhea Newton, 78, of Owensboro, died Jan. 3, 2018, at Owensboro Center. She was born on Nov. 21, 1939, in Ohio County, Kentucky, to the late William Estil and Mary Evelyn Greenwell.

She had been employed in the housekeeping department of Mercy Hospital and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Embry, Virginia Poulter, Betty Ambs, Annabelle Curtis, and Myrl Blomquist, and brothers, Bill, Ronnie and Donald Greenwell.

Survivors include two sons, Chris Newton (Maia), of Tennessee, and Joey Newton (Lorraine), of Louisiana; a daughter, Becky Martin (Larry Brown), of Owensboro; eight grandchildren; sisters, Cathryn Wigginton (Larry), of Owensboro, Katie McCollom (Charles), of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and Jane Ransom (Carl), of Cox Creek, Kentucky; brothers, Jim Greenwell (Leana), of Virginia, and Wayne Greenwell (Sandy), of Owensboro; a sister-in-law, June Greenwell; a brother-in-law, Ken Blomquist; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
