HARTFORD, Ky. — Eugene Reed “E.R.” Ward, 82, of Hartford, passed away, Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. He was born July 11, 1935, in Ohio County, Kentucky, to the late Lloyd and Martine (Renfrow) Ward.

Mr. Ward was a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of No Creek United Methodist Church in Hartford, and a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

He was an avid UK basketball fan, a sports fan in general, and he loved farming.

Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson, Logan Bickett, and sister-in-law, Wanda Ward.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Margaret Jo Ralph Ward, of Hartford; three children, Leslie (Len) Bickett, of Arcadia, Florida, Laura (Bryan) Ross, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, and Paul (Sandra) Luttrell, of Jacksonville, Florida; and two brothers, Donald Ward and Dale (Jean) Ward, both of Hartford. Mr. Ward was blessed with nine grandchildren, Emily (Chad) Jarvis, Jonathon (Nicole) Ross, Amanda (John) Fuller, Jordan (Megan) Bickett, Codi (Paul) Bechler, Natalie (Mitchell) Johnson, Landon, Katie, and Samantha Luttrell; 13 great-grandchildren, Jay Ross Jarvis, Jacie Anne Jarvis, Alyssa Jo Jarvis, Bailey Jo Belcher, Luke William Bechler, Cooper Logan Johnson, Ross Fuller, Isla Fuller, Addyson Ashby, Avionna Ross, Jack Ross, Jessa Ross, and Henry Ross; and seven nephews, Don, Kin, Kevin, Brad, Gordon, Ricky, and Jeff Ward.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, with Rev. Ed Mitchell and Rev. Wes Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Military rites service will be provided by Ohio County Honor guard.
