UTICA, Ky. — Herman Joseph Gahn, Sr., 79, of Utica, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at The Heartford House in Owensboro. Herman was born in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Alfons and Caroline Hundt Gahn Sr.

He served in the U.S. Navy, worked for the Chicago Police Department and Brinks Armoured Car Company and he was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Beaver Dam, Kentucky. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and a U of K fan.

He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Gahn; three brothers, Alfons Gahn Jr., Karl Gahn, and Delno Gahn; two sisters, Irma Tipltz, and Sister Caroline Gahn.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Nancy Ashby Gahn; a son, Herman Gahn Jr.(Friend-Nancy Kowalski), of Montgomery, Illinois; a brother, Werner (Waltraud) Gahn, of Inglolstadt, Germany; sister-in-law, Mona Gahn, of Centertown, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. Burial will be at Walton Creek Cemetery near Centertown. Friends may visit with the family from 9 p.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Ohio County Animal Shelter or Walton Creek Cemetery.
