HORSE BRANCH, Ky. — Grayling J. Hayes, 58, of Horse Branch, entered into eternal rest Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017.

Grayling was a Baptist minister and had been the pastor of many churches doing his best to serve the Lord and lead others to the love of Jesus.

He enjoyed antiquing and going to flea markets with his wife of 40 years, Vickie. Devoted father to their three children; Michelle (Jared), LeAnne (Cowboy) and Scott (Jessika), Grayling taught them lessons that will be passed on to their 12 grandkids; Samantha, Hannah and Natalie Mason, Brooklyn Filback, Dejah Blacklock, Mariah Smiley, Isabella Gilstrap, Angela and Claresia Sorrels, Kaislee and Kalem Cox, and the baby girl he was excitedly awaiting due in December. He was also grandpa to several foster children, opening his heart to make their world brighter and showing them unconditional, unending love.

Grayling worked for Yager Material for over 30 years as a superintendent and took great pride in his work.

He always enjoyed traveling with his family and his sister, LaVerne (Jessie), whom he affectionately called “Thumper,” and his brother, Gilbert (Loretta). Fishing was one of his favorite activities, one he often enjoyed with Gilbert and his grandson, Exavior. All the memories of the adventures they shared, both on water and land, will live on in the heart of his “Little Buddy” forever.

Grayling also loved to go mushroom hunting, raising a garden and just spending time with family and friends.

Grayling left behind a legacy of love, patience and strength as he stepped into the shores of Glory. We know he was greeted by his loving parents, Theodore and Betty Hayes, as well as grandparents, aunts and uncles, and countless cousins and friends.

In addition to his wife, children and siblings, Grayling leaves behind many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins all of whom he loved deeply.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. at Dermitt-Joyce Funeral Home in Caneyville with Bro. Joe Williams and Bro. Carl Bates will officiate. Interment will be in the Richland Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 21, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time of the service.
