OWENSBORO, Ky. — Emma Sherman Crowe, 64, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Born Oct. 26, 1952, in Kerrville, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Elvin and Clara Smith Sherman.

She was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church where she was chairperson of the Pre-School Board and member of the Potters Clay Bible Study.

Emma received her bachelor degree in elementary education and her masters in Reading from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She was a classroom teacher in San Antonio and Fairfax County, Va.; was a reading specialist at Pine Grove Elementary in Valdosta, Ga., where she was “Teacher of the Year” in 1992-93; was a curriculum director at Horse Branch Elementary in Ohio County, Ky., from 1994 to 1997 following her family’s retirement from the USAF.

In 1997 she became the principal of Philpot Elementary and implemented the first all-day kindergarten in Daviess County, Ky. In 2004, she became the first principal of Meadow Lands Elementary, retiring in 2009.

During her family’s Air Force career, she was always active in volunteer activities and was Family Service Volunteer of the Year at Cannon Air Force Base and then Tactical Air Command in both 1986 and 1987.

She accomplished many things and had many titles, but the title she cherished most was “Grams”. She adored her five grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Jerry Crowe; sons, Chris (Christina) Crowe, of New York City, Jason (Amanda) Crowe, of Union, Ky., and Stephen (Amber) Crowe, of Owensboro; grandchildren, James, Allison, Carson, Josie and Adriel; a sister, Cathie (Mike) Monsive, of San Antonio; and a brother, Nathan (Sandy) Sherman, of San Antonio.

Funeral services will be noon Friday, July 7, 2017, in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Dr. Glenn Sowards and the Rev. Keith Switzer officiating. Burial will follow in New Bethel Cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
