Lionel E. “Rip” Mattingly

FORDSVILLE, Ky. — Lionel E. “Rip” Mattingly, 85, of Fordsville, died Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Magan, Ky., to the late Jessie Earl Mattingly and Gertrude Brown Mattingly.

He was a self-employed auto mechanic and tow truck operator, retiring after 53 years. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and an Army veteran.

He was also preceded in death by a son, David Mattingly, and a sister, Christa Fern Mattingly.

Survivors include his wife, Nanette Slack Mattingly, of Fordsville; a son, Ricky Lewis Mattingly, of Fordsville; grandchildren, Mendy Gail (Steven) DeWitt, Seth (Amy) Mattingly, Jamey (Kortni) Mattingly, and Drew Mattingly, all of Fordsville; great-grandchildren, Darrian, Shaylen, Jadeyn, Paxton, Breylen and Lynlee; a great-great-grandson on the way; and a brother, Charles E. (Karen) Mattingly, of Fordsville.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Providence Baptist Church, Fordsville, with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Pattiville, Ky. Visitation is from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Providence Baptist Church.
