In Obituaries by OC Monitor Staff

FORDSVILLE, Ky. — Billy Don Richards, 80, left for his heavenly home on Friday, June 16, 2017, under the care of Hospice of Ohio County. He was born to the late Rolla Sr. and Flossie Richards on April 2, 1937, in Fordsville.

He was a member of Fordsville Baptist Church, a carpenter and a farmer. He loved building with his hands and had once said that Jesus His Savior was a carpenter too, and that he would love to see something that Jesus had built.

He loved fishing and hunting with family friends, and telling stories about those good times.

He fought a brave battle against cancer, and enjoyed his many visitors very much. He told his family that he wanted to enjoy his time with friends and family, and not express sadness around them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Dallas and Rolla Richards Jr.; his sister, Mae Stephens; and brothers-in-law, Frank Boswell and Roy Hobbs. He was also preceded in death by father- and mother-in-law, Jerome and Luberta Day; and brothers-in-law, Brent and Jerry Day.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bonnie Day Richards; his sisters, Margaret (Bob) Stivers, Alberta Hobbs and Shirley Boswell; his son, Don Wayne (Roxanne) Richards; his daughter, Cheryl (James) Hardin; grandchildren, Philip, Justin and Jonathan Hardin, Dalton Richards, Shane Luttrell and Megan (Joe) Adkins; two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Lydia Adkins; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice for their very special and constant care, Dr. Cole, our pastor, Joe Simmons, our church family and to all who helped us through this difficult time.

God’s everlasting arms were beneath us through it all. (Deut. 33:27)

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Geary Funeral Home, Fordsville, with burial in Fordsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
